Reliable and Convenient
We went back and forth about how to go about internet access while visiting Japan. I looked up reviews and found JapanWifiBuddy. Most reviews were positive and the price was fantastic so we went for it. I am so glad we did. The Silver WifiBuddy was delivered to the address we were staying at and waiting for us when we arrived, worked flawlessly throughout the entire trip everywhere we went (Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Kobe, Nagoya, Nikko, Tokyo, everywhere). The price was competitive and better than any other rentals we looked into and mailing it back was so easy - it came with a pre-paid, pre-addressed envelope. We dropped it in the mail on our last rental day and didn't have to worry about a thing. Would highly recommend.

Platinum wifi buddy
We got the platinum version for travelling around Kyoto and Tokyo. Has worked pretty well for the 3 phones we had attached to it. Had some signal issues in the train stations and buildings, but those never really caused us issues. My only complaint is that it seems to get really hot to the touch and we have had to charge it with the extra battery halfway through the day even when we aren't using it much.

Excellent
Excellent product. Worked in Tokyo, Hakuba and Kyoto and points between. Additional battery was very helpful. Pick up and drop off through Japan Post was straight forward.

Great wifi but don’t forget to RECHARGE
This Wifi buddy and the spare battery need to be recharged everyday. It pays to check the voltage every now and then so you don’t get caught out.

  • Requires a SIM Unlocked device with esim capability. If your device is locked, please contact your carrier to unlock it.
  • We include thorough instructions, via email, through our website and with customer service.
  • These are data-only SIM Cards. Carrier-based voice calls and text messaging are NOT supported. However, data-based messaging and telephony solutions such as Skype, Facetime, Whatsapp, Line etc. are supported.
  • To avoid provider validation complications, in some cases when users order far ahead of their actual trip, we will send a confirmation email, with a separate QR code later on, closer to the departure date.
