The signal is strong in most parts of Osaka and Kyoto, but there are instances that the experience slows down or signal is lost. Nonetheless it was a smooth and easy trip with the pocket wifi.

I got the Platinum option I've been quite satisfied so far (been using it for a bit over a month). The device is very small (about the size of a smart phone) so it's very convenient to carry around everywhere, thus helping you stay online all the time - and trust me, you will need access to Google Maps and Google Translate a lot, especially if you don't speak Japanese! The battery usually lasts me for almost the entire day and that's without the backup portable charger. The downside might be that the achieved speeds are nowhere near the theoretical maximum speeds (JWB's website does warn you about it!). Even though the maximum speed for Platinum Wifi is 220 Mbps, I've never got much more than 1 Mbps. Still, this is more than enough for regular day-to-day use.

I highly recommend this device. I stayed in Japan for about a week and used Google Maps and several Social Media devices without going over the data limit. (I kept a close eye on it too just in case) The battery lasts for majority of the day and I only had to use the portable charger on occasion. I will definitely use this device and service again when I return to Japan. :)

The speed after you max out the usage was a little slower than I'm used to (felt a bit like the 56k days in the area I was in) but its hard to argue with the value for money I got during my month of use. Customer service was fantastic and the extra battery was super useful. Thanks JapanWifiBuddy.
